No idea, but maybe if we can compare between americian English and Irish English, then that will be much more funny.

Irish tend to more blunt but harder to understand due to the the thick accent, IMO.

For those who don't know Kyoto Accent is usually stereotypically associated with sarcasm or hidden meaning, so whenever someone speaks in a Kyoto accent;

Like here in ch 1, she says "You are so kind, I have affection for people like you" would be taken as the person speaking in Kyoto accent being offended of you and actually meaning to say in a subtle way "Wow how rude, I hate your type of people"

Then there's "I've never met anyone as kind as you" which would probably convert Kind to either Rude or terrible

Kind of but the other way? Instead of saying something is shit to mean it's good, it's just the stereotype that anything overly nice a Kyoto person says to you is probably a condescending insult.

So more like conservative American south, where 'Well BLESS your little heart' means 'die in a hail of gunfire, you piece of shit' or 'Well aren't you special' means 'you are the stupidest asshole on the planet'. And often said by people who think they're righteous and smart, but are not at all. Which is another similarly

Well, it’s not that the dialect is sarcastic - it’s that the people in Kyoto has a reputation for being a bunch of condescending backtalkers - Kyoto was Japan’s imperial capital for 1300 years but for about 1000 of it, it was a national capital in name only. The emperor, the bureaucrats and the aristocracy is based there (along with a majority of the wealth) but the actual governance took place with the Samurai boys in either Edo or Kamkura castle. Either both the emperor and the shogun agrees and things get done, or they disagree and either ignore each other or they engage in proxy wars against each other, and it was the case all the way to 1867 when the Shogunate was abolished (mostly because the Samurai demonstrated weakness to outside powers and made themselves irrelevant)

In a large chunk of Japanese history it was the aristocrats in Kyoto playing political games with the bureaucracy while simultaneously making backroom deals with whatever samurai families out there to get an edge over the other, and as such, today’s political enemies might be tomorrow’s boss, and Kyoto folks are almost always seen by outsiders (even in modern times) as hedging their bets for survival…not unpleasant to outsiders, but condescending, hard to read and likely holding a hidden agenda.

NGL, if that's what the dialect is supposed to be like, then the attempt to render it by this translator and even the previous one fell completely flat. From the first chapter, there was barely any difference at the best of times between her Kyôtô dialectal speech and the normal dialect used by Haruhi and later herself.
