I believe the implication is that the sister and clan got total party killed. The demon is using the sister's body and the fox is whatever is left of the sister leading Takeru to do the thing their family failed to do.

Nevertheless, this arc will probably either explore how the demons aren't possessing bodies or explain why they could possess bodies so long to give Takeru another lead.
