Genuine question, considering that in a previous reply, you implied that this would be faster: Do you think that disregarding the help he's getting from the people with the most know how about the current state of the world behind the scenes (and probably even more information that would be useful to him and his goals), antagonizing the dude who just proved that he's willing to violently disrupt his life if he's not going through the proper procedures, then lawyering up and taking said dude to court, would be the quickest way for him to achieve what he wants?

If so, how?
Any help won't really do much (the enemies are in another world just visiting briefly at times), and be more liable to just have the helpers die if they do stumble onto the enemies. But if he truly wanted their help he could still ask for it without being made a hunter.
The antagonistic dude would be very unlikely to actually go too far, but even if he does, mc could easily clean up the hunters guild in an evening considering their locations are public. All without leaving any traces for evidence against his owner's body.
Lawyering up is not exactly needed, as if you want to give the guild guy legal issues you simply need to release some evidence. Because murder, assault, or kidnapping (which is what the guy is threatening to do, either to mc, or maybe those around him [X to doubt]) is not something you take to court yourself. It is just that the quickest and easiest hands-off approach to getting the actual processes started is to have the lawyer do them as your proxy, so you don't need to waste your time on it yourself (beyond maybe testifying as a witness on some recording, though even that wouldn't be needed considering mc's capabilities to easily get hard evidence).

But no, to answer your question, I don't think that would be the quickest way, just far faster than becoming a tool/slave having to obey a guild, whose main goal would be to keep him collared and busy with their tasks and not able to run free (which he needs to chase the demons). Since that alternative has a speed of 0.
I think the easiest and fastest way for mc would be to go murderhobo (though given the mc/genre we are dealing with, murder won't happen. At most some shounen beatings) on anyone going beyond 'merely' threatening him. But that is all besides the point, as (aside from the sheer fact that this mc won't do that) if their issue is that he is a dangerous threat, then they wouldn't antagonize him into actually being a dangerous threat. Particularly not one with no recourse but systematic violence (like if a hostage is taken). So they won't touch him either way.

Except you are not a terrorist just because you are a civilian, nor because you are strong. He could just as well have refused.
And if their authority is undermined, then it is their own fault for deciding to label him as a problem. Not mc's problem.

No, they did not. The hunter guy was spouting some nonsense, and then the other hunter guy decided without mc's input and absolutely no need, that mc should become a hunter. None of the reasons given in-universe were valid..

Ah, you were talking about them. Don't worry, all he would need to do there is to tell the guy "don't worry, I don't need to do that, there is no issue", and the guy could retract the offer himself. Noone ever thought him to have authority over mc in the first place, so his actual authority is not undermined - he is a third party.

Refusing to become a slave/prisoner is not being an asshole... Also, it is not the government he is getting on the shitlist for, it is that specific guild master, who is demonstrably trying to do illegal stuff. If it truly becomes an issue, he could simply get a lawyer involved and the government is the one that would take mc's side (unless there is corruption. But at that point it is time to start thinking of moving to another country).

Except, that's not the case. Him attempting to fight, escape, or ignore the Hunter Association, would undermine the authority of the Government.
Chapter 21 Page 6. Sogou says that the Hunter Association is RUN by the government and is given Tax Money. It's not a simple matter of disagreeing with a "guild master"(That's Karen level. She is the Guild Master for a Private Guild), this is the Hero Association President. So for Japan, it'd probably be on par with a Minster level position. For the US, it'd be like the Secretary of Defense, so Really High up in the bureaucracy. And Sogou is basically shown to be working directly for Akehoshi.

Who designates people as Terrorists? The Government (and public opinion, but that can be shaped by whatever the government wants to say about the situation.) And who believes that only they should have a monopoly on the use of force? The Government. So, the Hunter Association, has a lot of actual Power.

The reason Igarashi counters with becoming his guarenteers, and making Classic Takeru join the Hunters Association, is to keep Takeru out of "jail" and to counter Sogou's direct accusations, that's he a powerful unregistered Hunter involved with all these dangerous things. If Takeru goes out of control, they (3 S-Rank Hunters) have given their word that they'll stop him.

So, Yes, he would be on the Government Shit List. He has people he wants to protect, so he's not going to intentionally get his "family" and friends into trouble. And in terms of "moving to another country", that's what the Government Loves to control. So that's not really an option either. So, the Hunters Association can use all his personal connections as leverage against him. Takeru personally, doesn't want to fight them, but he's also a bit too complacent without knowing, they want to use his Body as a Military Weapon. So Igarashi rightly, interrupts Takeru surrendering.

This manga is pretty good so far but I really hope there isn't an entire arc of just doing hunter stuff that doesn't contain any main story plot in it just for the sake of doing hunter stuff. There's already a ton of manga for that and I'm more interested in him getting more clues for solving the body swap stuff.

I do wonder whats gonna come out of investigating his old self in the real world.

I still think the takeru in mc old body is fake. But if he's real he could be helping them because either a curse or they gave him the opportunity to use his powers he couldn't in his old body.
