From what I heard, as you get older your body naturally lets off a smell that's totally unnoticed to you but apparently younger kids don't like. Or it could just be her rebellious phase, I know myself can't sleep in a place that smells bad to me but she had no problem sleeping.

On a secondary note, it could be old person smell, or perhaps tobacco smell? For heavy smokers, just showers may not be enough.
