Basically both Xuanli and Qingning are gone. The town is completely abandoned. It’s implied that Laojun had a falling out with Qingning. She made him make a vow to never leave a tower for 100 years. Also, he is currently stuck(?) in child form for reasons I can’t remember. But at least he has internet and manga lol. Here’s 2 episodes where some stuff is partially explained.

Some extra info. The kid in glasses keeps getting mistaken for Xuanli, but he never confirms it. The strongest human Laojun talks about in episode 12 is Wuxian, who is also the black cat’s master/shifu.
