I think it's ok so far, but we don't really have enough chapters to judge it. It seems like it taking the route of one of those mediocre demon lord reincarnation manga though.
mmm, it seems to be good or has possibility to be good but i already hate this kind of development, would be nice to have a heroine that's not a damsel in distress (well, there's only 1.5 chapters, hopefully there will be some surprises).
@Nep I think it's more like the standard for "Villains" being redefined, as they're not stereotypically just 1-dimensionally evil, but often misguided or misunderstood. Same for "holy" or "good" people. Not exactly a new concept at all, but it's definitely a different style/trend compared to old mangas from like 80s-90s and early 2000s.
@OsoJr No, not "villains", or '1-dimensional evil'-ness. There is that but not exactly what I was referring to when I say this. Same thing applies to holy.
Here we have "evil king" (also somewhat self proclaimed which is the issue) who died at the young age of 29. Feels like hell of a short reign to be labelled 'evil' unless you do some really really terrible things like tyranny.
What does he do? Become an adventurer. Now, any 'decent misunderstood' person would probably not call himself Evil King despite the title given to him. "Ridiculously strong evil people" on the other hand would probably not have polite conversations and 'free and easygoing' adventurer job. So what we have here is a 'not really evil guy' calling himself evil.
Edit: (
Dhaos
from Tales is a good example of misunderstood "evil villain"
depending on the era, time travelling shenanigens
)
EDIT2 : (This doesn't apply if the raws said something like Maou, due to double meaning like Demon King. Which is accurate.)
As for "holy", I am not referring to "good" but their "sources of worship". In the beginning we have actual "Gods and Goddesses". "Objects of divine worship" etc. Even the 'evil ones' like in Mushoku Tensei and Youjo Senki have some form of 'divine-like' feeling to them. Now we have stories where an evil church worship "spirals". We also have fun goofballs like Aqua and Neptune.
I mean, with a decline in christianity and more open sources to learning mythologies, I'm pretty sure more and more people just understand how ridiculous and dangerous religion can be, historically and theologically. I mean, just look at Greco-roman mythology, it's not exactly the romantic epic people would expect for a legendary pantheon that inspired some of the wisest philosophers in history. A lot of equally dumb and corrupt shit happens.
We also don't exactly know the context or circumstances of this character before he became known as the "Evil King". I mean, it was clear that he was a threat to the world, but the reasons for why he acted on it could be more complex than just being "evil". Look at stories like Shaman King, where Hao is pretty "evil" in his own sense, but it's also an example of a misguided villains.
Hao was outcasted by the world and even abandonned by his only demon friend, so with zero contact and connection, he never learns to sympathize or feel compassion and instead directs his grief and apathy to the world, giving to what he believes is deserving i.e destruction.
Hao was obviously evil but it wasn't unfounded. It's not just evil for the sake of evil anymore, like a Joker to a Batman. Again, I'm pretty sure the trend, for the past decade, has been to kind of blur that line between good and evil. Sure MC was titled "Evil" in his past life, but doesn't need to mean he was bad, could have just been doing what he believed was deserving in his own misguided way. If he inherited the title or conquered it, he probably felt it responsible to take over the world. Maybe some bureaucratic reasons to wage war as such. Another example of such, Magi does that pretty well with the Kou Empire. So, MC may have embraced the title of "Evil King" for aesthetic reasons, but he can also just be some guy who probably wouldn't go back down the same path if he didn't have the responsibility.
I’m conflicted that the girl would be like those other generic FL that are really annoying and comments on everything he’ll prob do....but I also hope he doesn’t puxxy out on killing people....
@Nep
No need for spoilers. Dhaos is in the intro to the game. And yes, he had very good intentions at the outset, but became increasingly violent as his desperation grew. In fact, Tales games usually have villains that have a noble goal, but go to extreme lengths to achieve it. Exception being Kronos/Miktran. Fuck him; seriously.
You want another intense villain journey, try Live a Live...
>I’ve run into a problem
>”solve the problem” power activate!
>ah that’s better
Isekai, lmao. Never change kid. I wonder if AI is writing this shit by now.
Remember Kanata Kara, when learning the language was a significant portion of the charm?
@Sep10trion Naw. Im never spoiling Dhaos. That guy is too good a character to spoil even if the game itself is decades old since he is also probably one of the first one in existence. His motives are revealed nearer the end so...
InDeiGNeIShUn in its dubbed form however, deserves to be repeated and mocked till the end of time.
So he as an Evil King, what he will do in this new world? Become a new Evil King? Or just thrown all of those "evil" and became a good adventurer with op skill and making a harem?
That's the question.
dude, that ain't how evil lords reply to lowly humans!!!
where's the "KUHAHAHAHA!!! PEASANTS! BOW TO MY PRESENCE!"
and "HOW DARE YOU BREATH YOUR DISGUSTING HUMAN AIR TO MY VICINITY!"
