western places it closer to 1849 - 1890, meaning $5 would've been worth even more back then than $165 is worth today.
Assuming an average inflation of 1% from 1849 to 1913, $5 back then would've bought...
- 1849: the equivalent of $308.63 today
- 1890: the equivalent of $205.31 today
... which is quite a lot of money. It's pretty insane that Evans chose to lend the equivalent of $2000 - $3000 without expecting anything back. Even more so that he chose to go all-in, knowing she's still a gambler.
