The chapter was deleted? Sad. This made me want to reread old stories. Not manga, but actual events. Like WW2 acts of mercy—

Destroyer Inazuma rescuing 400 UK sailors after sinking the Cruiser Exeter, and her sister ship Ikazuchi, which rescued a similar amount from Exeter, The Encounter, and USS Pope a day afterwards. (The people rescued unfortunately become POWs, but were returned after the war.)

The Christmas Truce (WW1, not 2), where soldiers from both sides exchanged rations and played together for a single night.

Pilots sparing heavily damaged enemy aircraft and escorting them side by side (to dissuade allied anti-air units from shooting them down because of the risk of friendly fire) to safe airspaces. Or pilots attacking aircraft that dared to shoot helpless parachutes.

Or even acts of defiance (in the name of mercy) like Schindler’s List.

Ayyy, it’s back.

If people want the small, beautiful moments of tragedy to represent humanity’s potential more than the flood of ugliness and cruelty, I think moments like this are perfect.

The every day harshness of reality ought to be overturned by an unexpected gesture of goodwill. And I don’t mean things like YouTube videos of people giving out donations to the homeless, which are thinly veiled schemes to gain clout, upvotes, or ad revenue.

@nelier
You’re welcome! It was refreshing to “read” compared to the usual stuff.

Sometimes the scariest things and biggest risks are from doing the right thing. I feel many isekai can’t capture this feeling.
