Looking for original series that Tsuihou suru Gawa no Monogatari is a spin off of

I am looking for the name of the original series this spinoff is based on. It follows exiled character from the story and is has a more normal pace. I remember reading it a long time ago before this spinoff came out but have not found anything googling. It's been hard cause the originals author seems to be different. It's really bugging me I can't remember the name. I remember everything being a lot higher quality than this spinoff by a different author.

100 percent. The main series follows the MC and him meeting the members of his new party after he is kicked out and then powers up. I have also seen comments referencing the original so I know I’m not crazy. Unfortunately the comments don’t mention the main series by name.

Are you sure when people say "the original" they're not referring to the novel it was adapted from?

pretty sure it was not a spin-off, novel adaption is a yes though.

edit: they're probably referencing on how things are less "bad" in the novel, since the manga adaptation is straight up a war crime to every logical being ever exist.
