and he didnt even know if there're viable hostages in the next room to start with. Even if the room has random kids... magi dont exactly have a good reputation in this universe, that's quite a gamble he wagered.

well color me surprised, stabbing though unprotected portions, armor actually protecting the user (deflecting the knife), he isn't cutting through armor, while the swords/daggers are shown to be sharp enough to easily go through bone

Yes that may be the case but I have no idea what path that sword did in page 13 to make that cut and not touch that wrist armor. The mangaka probably didn't have one either

well, if I had to guess,
after sidestepped (teleported) to the bandit's left side slightly behind like on that page 13,
body facing the bandit's back, cut from under the armpit, turning body while slicing, ending up in the pose on page 13

tho... the sword would be pointing at the girl's head when cutting
if he held the girl to his body very tightly, can't imagine it would be a clean cut without hurting her

Exactly, that's what I mean.
Kinda weird to include a full page combat scene with unclear combat dynamic in a combat focused manga.

I'm giving this one last chapter to see if this manga starts to finally have a clear direction. Until now it's somewhat average.
