@Dverin_Oshiban_Duren
Lotm feels VERY Nasuverse inspired, reminds me a lot of Nasu's style of story telling from Tsukihime and the Fate Stay franchise. I dig it.
It kind of feels like I am reading a spin-off of Sherlock Holmes from Fate Grand Order.

Wait till you get to volume 2 and 5 :smugnako:
There's a sequence that can summon people from history.

Once I started to realize that it is similar to Nasu's style of writing, I started to click more with how the world works if I read it with similar logic to a Nasuverse story. It helps me build a clearer mental image of the world.

The whole Dark abyssal world of horrors on the edge of reality, reminds me of the dimension of the Foreigners from Fgo, a realm of lovecraftian horrors, where reality starts to fall apart, sometimes with figments of our imagination becoming real, and possibly even being capable of harming you, it's original creator

I always did find the way they touched on these topics in Fgo to be lacking. Likely cause ultimately, they were just trying to sell you gacha waifus. But here, the whole focus IS that topic. It is not window dressing for some hot gacha waifu.

Wow I've heard praises of it but haven't gotten into it because of the sheer amount of stuff. Planning to watch the animations in order of release (that should be fine, right?)
The Lotm world (at the start) seems to be somewhat like this pic:

Oh yeah that looks accurate. Guess it's not a rare aesthetic.

That's making me even more interested :meguupog:

The problem with Fgo, the game, is that well, it is a GACHA game. An INCREDIBLY scummy and predatory one at that.

I would recommend just watching YT videos of the visual novel style cutscenes. The gameplay of the actual games is for masochists who like to be abused by the devs shitty gacha rolls and scummy FOMO mechanics.

It's better to start from the beginning because the donghua skips over a lot of content.
But if you watched all the episodes including the specials without getting too confused and don't feel like reading something you should be familiar with already at a slower pace then feel free to start right from volume 2 (chapter 214)

Oh right I wanted to say something about the 3 season 1 special episodes but got put off by people calculating certain... volumes on the second week. Now I have recovered after months.

Before I talk about the specials, I gotta mention these shorter episodes that aired alongside season 1 titled "Old Neil's Mysticism Class" which covers a lot of the exposition and info skipped in the donghua.
Idk why I never mentioned them and they can be a little challenging to watch.
It's just 8 4–8 minute videos of Old Neil as a talking png with a blackboard and clips from the donghua explaining stuff like geography, currencies, languages, mysticism basics, ritualistic magic, spirituality, orthodox organisations, hidden organisations, pathways, early sequences, etc.
Each one is supposed to explain stuff corresponding to the first 8 episodes of season 1 so you can watch episode 1, then Old Neil's mysticism class, then the chibi short and then episode 2 and so on.

Oh yeah there are these 9 chibi shorts titled "Q Theatre" which are more light-hearted and funny although some of them are not based on the novel but others are like when Benson tricks the landlord of their old apartment. I just saw them on YouTube a year ago and kinda forgot.
Honestly you can watch these after season 1 or skip them cuz they're not that important anyway.

Now the 3 special episodes are important for the story because they're part of the second last arc of season 1 which is chronologically supposed to take place just a few episodes before the season finale (after episode 10 I think) but they aired it one year after season 1 for some reason (maybe they needed more time to finish animating?)

The first special which aired on June 20 introduces the City of Silver which is located in the Forsaken land of the gods along with characters like Derrick Berg, Colin Ilyad and elder Lovia who live there in horrifying conditions (which is also a mystery that will be explained much later).
Gotta say they did a great job with this one. Derrick's parents got way more screentime than in the novel which makes it more tragic when they died. Even the random crystal ball got more lore which makes it more mysterious (it doesn't matter much)!
And the visuals man, they're so good. It's way more scary than what I imagined when reading - the monsters are more aggressive and bloody.

The other two which aired the following week are part of the Qilangos arc which introduces us to Fors and Xio in Backlund where most of LotM takes place. Along with some important church guys, aristocrats, creeping hunger (the glove) and a really fun action sequence with abilities that had not been showcased in season 1 before.

Guess who did this? Yeah it doesn't look great here...

I was sooo disappointed when they skipped this part last year.

I think they did a great job. I think these specials are much better than season 1 episodes in terms of pacing because they didn't have to turn 213 chapters into 13 episodes.

Season 2 should be coming out next year and I'm so excited!!! I heard it might also get an arc cut off but honestly I'm not bothered because volume 2 was Klein getting into random conflicts which connect towards the end just like season 1 but this time more dangerously with over 30 episodes!!

Courting death! Lampooning! Secrets! Deals! Coincidences!

I'm gonna mystery so hard
