So I ended up just reading the novel and

honestly it got very boring? Same formula in each event/arc as in MC acts "nonchalantly", stumbles upon OP relics, ends up saving the day and everyone feels indebted to him, his words shine light through their hearts.... In every single freaking arc. Mild differences here and there but as you enter a new arc, you can pretty much guess how it's gonna go, sans the details.

I dropped the novel at about chapter 200+

To those who say its story is straight, it isn't this is because it is still at the point where he's still gathering his comrades(repeatedly). There are a lot of scenes in the novel that made me cry or laugh. It is a good story, kinda Suikoden or One Piece kind of story.
This is also that kind of story, it may be boring cuz he's gathering an army of friends, but there are scenes in which they'll tell you the backstory.
I love the kids averaging 9y/o + a slacker scenes, so cute and fluffy~!

manganelo, mangapark, mangaread, mangakalot, or any other websites just search up "trash of the count's family chapter #" youll find it just have ad and popup blocker just to get rid of the annoying porn ads and porn popups

I think it does get a bit formulaic/repetitive around 200 chapters and still a bit moving forward. But it does get better after that. I believe it's because at around 200 chapters, cliches are still played straight. And since the foreshadowing aren't exactly unrevealed yet, it felt repetitive as they are taking more time to set the foreshadowing in place, which are quite well hidden foreshadowings.

The author worked very hard to make you believe that it is a standard series with standard settings at that point, and none of the mysteries are revealed or touched upon yet. There wasn't much character development at this point either so the characters often fell a bit flat there. When I was reading around chap 200, it already felt very end game, but to my surprise it actually wasn't. You slowly discover that the narration is actually an unreliable narrator and there are more going on. It's nice to see a lot of the things you disregarded at the beginning for being standard in this genre get flipped later on, and the pay off is great.

That's not saying this novel doesn't have a common theme (it's a nakama story and a feel good story), or that it is anything record breaking which makes you wonder about the meaning of life. But it is quite a nice and solid story to read as entertainment. Objectively, I'd give this a solid 8.5/10. It's solid, and while not ground breaking it is well self-contained. Subjectively tho, I enjoyed it 10/10. I honestly think it's worth giving it a shot again.

@Keimichi Thank you for the info. I'll pick it up again if I have time. Granted the novel chapters are quite short in itself, but taking more than 200 chapters to get to the point is a bit overkill imo. And I understand it's a kind of feel-good, my-pace story, hence I tried so hard to read on, it's just about 200 was my limit.

Since nobody mentioned here this for some reason yet I'd share the important info:
The Wuxiaworld site where they translate Trash of the Count's Family original novel was hit by the copyright problems and they're removing translated chapters -

They said that they'll remove chapters in a week after that post, which was published 05.11.2020, so we only have ~2 days left 😨

I suggest for people who're interested in the novel to go by this link, scroll down the comment section and find the link on the Google archive of the currently translated chapters (1-629).

@sweatyman123 Novelupdates doesn't store/keep/upload anything on their site, all they do is link the chapter to the the groups' websites, so in this case, when wuxiaworld removes the chapters, the links in NU will be invalid.

@Snkr The link should be fine, it's not like you're promoting other aggregators' sites or something. And thanks heaps for the doc files, don't know why I find this a bit interesting the translated chapters are taken off about the time I decide to pick the series up again lol
