Note to self, began reading a few days ago. But ignoring that, there's no problem not spending lots and lots on the newest items. Its actually better to live modesty to build up wealth and spend it on things which actually matter, such as property. I dunno, I would have liked for the rich girl to start being more modest instead rather than shaming the other girl for most of the chapter.
