Some people don't want to get married because of the legality of it. Others think it's just unromantic as in "I want you so I'll bind you to me in a legal contract that'll make you feel more reluctant to leave me than if we were just living together".
I don't know what to feel about all that but I understand it somewhat.
Also, for some other people, it's just a way to rebel against society's norms which I understand even more because I myself don't want to have kids which most people expect for a woman to want and eventually do. So, similar to that, some people don't want to do something just because their parents did it and society expects them to...like "hey you guys have been together for years, did he pop the question yet?". This infuriates a lot of people and they want to detach themselves from this stereotype
