Translated a single character's name as both "Polaris" and "Boralis" within the same chapter. Pretty sloppy.

I hope those three chucklefucks finally get their comeuppance. It was frustrating that after everything they were still running around causing trouble. Knowing how this story goes, they probably won't get killed off, but at least incapacitate them so they can't hurt more people.

Like others i also thought the former king was dead and tossed to side like old crap.
i thought that the sisters would have killed him already.. perhaps i should re-read. sometimes i wish for a mini resume so we can catch up on what did happen.

also the kids too adorable.

Yup. Trauma for the fox sisters.
Wonder if the kid is treated as a hostage, or a guest? Hopefully better than before.
And lots of interesting details.

'officially' a hostage against the assassin, so likely she'll live in isolated area, under surveillance, etc.

in practice a guest:
limited freedom - she's a scared smol child, an isolated area away from strangers is probably more comforting for her if anything
surveillance - 3rd princess trying to befriend her

Down the line as her condition improve then the queen can relax her restrictions for 'good behavior' or whatever.

Rival factions taking heirs and other adolescent family members as political hostages was quite common in real world history, with them suffering treatment running every range from very well to absolute abuse. It was mostly used after one Lord lost badly to another as the dual insurance of making sure their parent didn't attack again, while trying to raise the child to take their parent's place after being educated to be sympathetic towards their captor.

Thankfully, the young Queen and her sisters seem to be more or less alright despite ther father, but the young girl is still their hostage and they will attempt to educate her to be stmpathetic to humans and their kingdom regardless of how well treated she is being.

how about you reread the previous chapters and brush up on your comprehension.
Lmfao nice try kid if hes trying to create a place for half demons/humans holding a like 6 year old hostage and stripping her of her only family and throwing her to the wolves (the kingdom) who also hate abuse and despise halflings isnt the move that doesn't foster unity it fosters hate and fear they literally can call her by her name not just hostage reduces the kid to a thing and dehumanizes her using a kid as leverage is already as low as you can go if the demons did the same and held the 3rd princess hostage under the same circumstances doubt youd defend it

Demons need not worry about future leadership. I'm sure thier lords time with the shovel hero will teach him well.
I've been reading the LN and (spoilers for quite a while ahead):
This is exactly what happens. The Hero becomes humble while on the run and learns the importance of effort and leadership and teamwork, and that all rubs onto Dawkson, who eventually returns to the Castle as a changed man.

As for the former king:
He and the two foxwomen become Team Rocket. They turn up in a new town and try to implement a nefarious scheme to get rich quick, only to be thwarted (usually by accident by the Hero trying to make his own money). They run away in the nick of time and try again in the next town. The Shadow King Vs the Hero's Party is pretty much the most interesting thing in the books after a while, as Flio's crew settle into happy family life, and Garyl builds an ever increasing harem.

If anyone's being sloppy, it's the author- the left one says 'Boralis,' the right says 'Polaris.' It was the translator's choice to keep it true to the author's work.

Bruh. So many things are happening all over the place. One moment, I was learning some life lessons from Flio. Then we get to see the 3rd princess. I wonder if this is her debut, I don't remember seeing her before. Then we have Zanzibar and the former king of Klyrode trying to one-up each other.

So...let me confirm, you'd rather send her back to this:

I dunno, I'd rather defend the 3rd princess than your decision.

Really find it disgusting that theyre holding a child hostage my opinion of mc and the queen hit rock bottom
Dude, this is hostage taking in the oldest sense of the word.

Here, check this out:

Host.

Hostage.

Get it? This was the original usage. Hospitality was a seriously big deal in settings where traveling was always an ordeal. They will have made a journey across all kinds of terrain, probably running into adverse weather a time or two (if not the entire way), worn out and saddle-sore. So if someone is making the effort to visit you - particularly if they were conducting official business - then it was only right that you provide food, comfort, and protection to these people. And it wouldn't even matter if they were emissaries from someone who was nominally your adversary - treating them with hospitality was the same sort of thing as knowing better than to shoot the messenger.

As for actual "hostage taking"? Among powerful noble families, this was actually a show of great trust (because the hosting family is honor-bound to see to the safety and comfort of their hostage), and usually had upsides for both parties.

For example, two ducal families can show solidarity between each other by exchanging their young children with each other. And while the families see to the care and protection of these hostage children, the children themselves get to have the experience of visiting other places, having new experiences, and meeting new people. Sometimes, it was even done with the hopes that a pairing might occur. Because while arranging a marriage might be good for forging an alliance, it's even better when the pairing happens naturally.

And in the case we see here? A high-ranking member of demon society is placing her trust in the Kingdom of Kryroad by entrusting her only family to them. (Keep in mind, she didn't actually have to do this. It was offered to her as a sort of "Third Door", and she accepted, knowing full-well the implications.)

If I remember right, she's kind of a hostage in name only.
Big sister attempted to assassinate the queen, believing that would help shield little sister from the prejudice she was facing by being a half blood. It failed, so Queen basically HAD to execute her or else that would show weakness during war, invite more assassins, etc etc. Queen didn't want to do that, so MC just went "Take her sister hostage. That'll give her a better life, shield her from prejudice, and help with the half-blood integration project I want you to work on."
So, little sister is there as an excuse for the Queen to not have the older sister executed, and gets a royal life out of the deal.
