The imagery of the flesh worm on top of the narrator's sister in bed, pinning her down and drinking of her even as she screams in protest... it really calls to mind childhood sexual assault. Sometimes, horror will lean into the fantastical as a way to discuss reality without the burdened emotions of the real.
