Looking at these comments and rereading this chapter it made me think how this is one of the weirdest romance mangas ever written I dont want to beat a dead horse but it really does feel cuckish: like an amalgamation of cheating and cucking. instead of the what you expect from a romance manga where the male lead and female lead get to know each other and eventually learn to love each other later down the line its the female lead sulking over a dead ex and the male lead likes the female lead but she doesnt shes still not over her ex and the male lead is a cope for her ex. It feels like cheating on the deceased husbands part because his life was taken away from him and she sees male mc as him and it feels like cucking because female mc is just seeing her deceased husband in male mc she doesnt like him its just a cope for her. now i know it makes sense since cuz shes drunk and all but im viewing it from a meta-perspective, like im placed in the author shoes and im making writing decisions anyway it does intrigue me to keep reading this and i like the fan service too, thank you for the translation

Or maybe, just maybe, when they were classmates Tsubaki could see the potential in Otakei.
If he wasn't pessimistic he would do much better.
So what if, what if Tsubaki had got together with Otakei back then to be the encouragement he needed? Then he could be suscessful, or at least not a failure. She would have her husband, a family, and the guy she actually married would still be alive.

What if she is thinking that she made the wrong choice and caused a worse future for all of them?

Some of the comments here are really immature. Tsubaki had a husband and she lost him, not a fling with a random that didn't work out. Of course she going to be grieving and that grief can take many forms. Being around a familiar face that doesn't know all your baggage can be a blessing, it's an escape for her. Whether that turns physical or not is yet to be seen and while I don't think it will just yet, they're both adults who know the score.

Otakei isn't being used, he's aware that she lost her husband, and acts accordingly.Tsubaki gave him the push he needed to try writing again, great but it’s more complex than that. They're both at a crossroad in their lives of course there's going to be some bumps along the way.
I think it's naive that the idea of if the relationship becomes physical and then the author makes her see her husband in him it won't come off as a rebound. Not to say they can't overlap in personality traits or whatever I just think seeing that she's doing that has set of alarms for people, granted it's only happened once while shes drunk so it could be a one off so yeah I think people jumped the gun a bit.

Personally I'm just a little worried that the creator will go down this route and glamourise it, because it's the easiest route to go. I hope it's more nuanced than that.

Did he die in a motorcycle accident after a spat between the two? If so, I guess I understand how in-laws have put the blame on Tsubaki, even if it's not that justified...

I really like how we’re making so many assumptions with little to no actual evidence.

Yes, she’s clearly drunk, and yes, she clearly misses her husband, but we still don’t know what kind of love she had for him. Was it genuine romantic love, or something else entirely? Earlier, we saw him in what looked like a hospital bed, so maybe he had a chronic illness. Maybe they had known each other for a long time. Maybe they were childhood friends, he always liked her, and she started developing feelings for Otakei but chose to stay with him because he was sick.

We simply don’t know.

At this point, all we really know is that she’s drunk, lonely, feels guilty about something, because her sister-in-law is either a tsundere or someone deeply hurt by losing her brother and taking that pain out on others, and Otakei is caught in the middle, trying to deal with both his past and present self while struggling to break free from his insecurities.

That’s all we actually know. Everything else is speculation.

Might be wrong about this but I'm spit balling here

Given the way things are going, even if they fall for each other, it would be very unrealistic that it's going to be a happy ending. MC clearly has some unresolved feelings for FMC, and she has unresolved grief and feelings for her late husband, it's a disaster waiting to happen.

It's getting hard not to see that he's being a rebound for her, given the last few panels clearly showing a different guy's back, which makes things look ugly if being critical. I don't believe she mentioned anything about how MC feels safe or reminds her of someone, (but if she did, that's admittedly fucked even if it's tender), but the MC being seen as the somewhat being the late husband in personality does a huge disservice to both. MC should be his own character and thoughts, and the late husband needs to rest in peace in honor of his own memory, if he was genuinely a good person I guess.

If it does go with the rebound sort of plot, that leaves a bad taste in my mouth tbh. I love melodrama but melodrama with genuine raw grief, very conflicted feelings that are not being properly addressed, and whole lotta regrets, all being not so properly addressed as unhealthy and a looming inevitable ugly problem in the future is uhhh, yeesh for me

Hopefully the author knows how to navigate this meaningfully, this sort of thing needs careful planning

I can't believe they just shrugged this off

Is this such a common ocurrence for them?

That close-up was so unnecessary. Mangaka be like:
Did you see it? Did you see it?! :pepela:

Thanks for the chapter!

Even with the sister there we still know nothing about the deceased husband not even a sprinkle of info As expected they'll just drag out this plot line for 60+ chapters until then to get information about what couldve possibly happened. On the other hand I hope we get more moments with the female manga artist and otakei I really want to see a romantic relationship form between them
The more is revealed about her past relationship and how bad she is still hung up on it the more I want mc to forget about her.

The girl who's been strictly loyal for many years and is fiercely supportive or the cabaret girl that sells her body and is still hung up on her ex? Theres a pretty obvious correct choice here

Like I said before and fmc just using him as her backup. It’s worse since she showed some interest in him during high school but mc clearly wasn’t her first choice. And the author is writing the story so bad with having the mc inexperience with relationships and not being able to be successful with manga without the help of the fmc who just toying with him.
How do we know that dead husband wasn't the second choice? It's still not entirely laid out how things ended between them in high school. She could have been dropping hints left and right that he just didn't pick up. Then he leaves for Tokyo so she figures it's over, now dead husband enters the picture.

How in the blazes was he "cucked"?

Not every relationship works out, and we don't yet know how they even split ways, in the first place.
Calling him a mere replacement is an insult to them both and to the story being told.

I feel like all this "second-choice" talk is entirely because it's the woman who lost a spouse. I'd bet money none of the people bemoaning the dynamic between them would be saying the same thing if Otakei lost a wife and Tsubaki were the single one.

There's so much more at play in the overall narrative that the continued focus on that getting hung up on that singular detail starts feeling like readers betraying that they can't handle a complex relationship.
Ill agree that he wasn't cucked but the similar sentiment is still there.
He quite literally is a substitute for another man in the final scene.

What a chocker, men and women are different wow. Like it or not she will always compare him to her dead husband, thats just how women are. Specially since she is still grieving him. While a man will just be content with what he has, this isnt a scenario where swapping the sexes works well

After reading this chapter, I can tentatively assess it like this: (Otakei is quite kind and he understands Minori's situation well; through his actions, I can give him great respect.) Minori is a girl with a lot of energy; she is the one who motivates Otakei to pursue his passion, but she also has many psychological issues after losing the husband she loved. After reading this chapter, I understand that even more; perhaps she sees the image of her ex-husband in Otakei. I see their relationship as one of relying on each other to live; they compensate for each other in this difficult world. I think Otakei is a bit pitiful; many people say he's a second choice, but I can say that in real life, you're not necessarily the first choice of the person you love. In general, her husband's death and Minori finding Otakei is just a coincidence; if her husband hadn't died, we probably wouldn't have... You can see Otakei now, or he might still be able to recover, but it will take longer. Sometimes when I read, I don't know if Minori truly has feelings for Otakei or if it's just a fleeting infatuation. Perhaps she still loves her ex-husband more, or maybe I don't know anymore. If their feelings develop in the future, I hope Minori can move forward and truly love Otakei the way she loves her husband. Or, if they can't be together, I hope Otakei deserves a happy ending.

Have you seen the author's pixiv account...?
I would not discard a hentai fanbox in the future.

Cool, then why is the other person bitching at all?

This is a manga, not hentai, and wishing it to be hentai is now pointless in two ways.
