Thanks for the translations. Certainly better quality than the other release.

Main page comment was right. Glad I wasn't the only one thinking the art has shifted somewhat for the worse without backgrounds.

Interesting that you guys consider this translation superior. Although the editing made most of the lines sound more fluent, as far as I'm concerned it's far less accurate and so actually makes less sense than the other release in that regard.

Pages 1–2
Narehate: "Emotions... scenery... and thoughts all came rushing in."
12YOB: "My emotions... my surroundings... and my thoughts. I let them all pour out."
Reg explains the effect of the white whistle call to Riko. (Also, how do you pour out your surroundings? Do you just figure it's good enough as you finish editing a phrase like that?)

Narehate: "I knew... I knew you and Prushka called me immediately."
12YOB: "You... I called out with Prushka and you came right away."
Pretty sure this is still supposed to be a part of Reg's speech (i.e. 君とプルシュカ is literally "you and Prushka"), which also explains Riko's emotions towards Prushka-cum-whistle later on that page.

Narehate: "Amazing! So that's the power of a white whistle!"
12YOB: "Amazing. Is that a white whistle?"
Although the original wording (それが白笛か) is closer to the latter reading (at least from what little I know), I feel the intended one should sound more like "So that's a white whistle, huh?", i.e. a rhetorical question. Reg looks and sounds like he has already inferred what it is, so it's not like he explicitly needs to know the answer—consequently, Riko doesn't verbally confirm it either. Narehate's version conveys this better.

Page 5
Narehate: "Should I applaud now? Is it over?"
12YOB: "Is the time for applause... over?"
Again, Narehate's wording makes far more sense here.

Page 6
Narehate: "That one thing is a big hive."
12YOB: "It's a nest that swarms together."
Editor-kun, it pains me to point out the obvious, but a nest cannot swarm. Only things able to behave like a swarm can swarm.

Page 8
Narehate: "Belafu wanted Mitty and sacrificed a lot. And to trade for them, I need the value of a human child or greater..."
12YOB: "Nanachi sacrificed themself to be with Mitty... So... To trade for them back... He said we would need something even more valuable than a human child."
Although both versions aren't great (for one, you can't understand whether "them" refers to Nanachi, Mitty, or both), this is just pure guesslation on 12YOB's part. Riko actually talks about Belafu here (ベラフさん in the first line)—the narehate who sacrificed most of its body to obtain a copy of Mitty. "He" in Riko's second line refers to Belafu as well, which you cannot possibly infer from what comes prior in 12YOB's version. There is no "Nanachi" in either line to be used this way. Apparently checking a couple chapters back to refresh the context of what's being translated is too serious a task.

And so on. It sure looks like if you let Narehate's translator (who evidently has a better grasp on the language and the context) work with 12YOB's editor(s) and raws, you might get an actually high-quality release.

The language in this manga is way too cryptic. Couple it with the fact that the story is so mysterious and you have a perfect recipe for hackneyed or unsatisfactory translations. A lot of things only come to make sense later.
I truly envy those who will only come to learn of this manga after it's finished. Their experience with it should be a much easier one.

Some bits make more sense some make less. For instance, Veko saying she was "the sold survivor" vs "a survivor" . We know there are at least two other survivors and who they are.

so....between these two releases....

Veko is the only one who wasn't transformed into a new village dweller. Wazukyan and presumably the other sages were part of the delver group, and Faputa.....what the fuck.

@moozooh thanks for pointing out the differences, I like the analysis and thoughts about them.
I share the same conclusion as you, however, that's something I can't really see happening (two different teams, may happen tho if they coordinate on a single release).

This seems much less accurate than the first translation. 'Erase its value without using the incinerator'? You can't 'erase' its value without vaporizing it (which he could only do with the incinerator that he just forbade himself), its value is its body. Is this a typo and is supposed to be about preserving its value, since that's the purpose of the hunt? But Reg doesn't even know about the hunt, he just got back.
This seems like three-fold error of translation, common sense and context of the situation. Why upload such a shoddy translation? NarehateScans was a rushjob and it's still superior.

Yeaaah, gonna have to say this was the better release if only for the simple fact that I understood it better relative to previous chapters.

@moozooh The all-around "best" and most accurate (imo, having read the raws for the entire manga) translation – not to mention with the best typesetting, by far – is done by /a/byss scans. They should be out sometime this weekend from what I know.
