They could use dry wood as an insulator instead of expensive ores.

Can't really understand why he couldn't manipulate earth and water (yet?), so far it's sort of kinesis where everything physical or existing can be controlled through anyone willing enough to do it.
I imagine it's diluted so much he needs to focus harder? Time will tell...

Also, monsters in this manga 12/10 goddamn terrifying.

@SpecialProjectY I agree, the monsters definitely are for once terrifying in this world. Even a lowly goblin that's usually cannon fodder needs a number of adults to take it down. It's probably because it's a bit more underdeveloped where humans don't have proper ways to handle magical creatures in this world, well at least until MC discovers how to properly use magic.

As for earth / water manipulation it likely needs a different methodology (not just shooting magic orbs at it) as otherwise those fishes in their lake would've made a scene when they excrete magical orbs when doing courting rituals and the same goes for magical creatures who's probably constantly excreting magical energy in land / water.

Think the "fish orbs" are a form of clairvoyance spell (?), they use it naturally to find a match or one that gives away brighter/bigger orb is more suitable mate, this probably doesn't manipulate anything physical or material because they're far too week creatures anyway.

Why does he even want elemental magic when he handled the goblin just fine without it

If you look closely, he cooked his brain and eyes since first thing he learned was raising overall temperature, feeling "warmth" while casting.

It's good offensive thing but need physical contact with whatever you need to damage.

Then something like a Magick Archer might be more suited for him imo. Infusing arrows with magic and firing them might could be effective. He does make it clear that he wants a pure mage build from chapter 1 so 😂
