I think the last time anyone said anything was like last October. Just how SICK was the Mangaka. It's been well over a year since the last chapter. Dude got a hit anime, manga was firing on all cylinders and then everything stopped.
The manga was not super popular untill the anime. When the anime hit there was a ton of backlash against it and the manga wenton hiatus. My thought has always been that the author is lying low untill people forget about it

From what I recall the manga sold well even before the anime (which is why it even got one) and the anime did big numbers especially in BD sales. A few westoids crying on Twitter and Reddit probably wouldn’t have even reached him. I sincerely doubt that had anything to do with the hiatus.

probably a burnout. When stuff start to blow up, it's often after years of harships.
If it was some kind of hand or back injury we would see chapters once in a while. HxH is proof it's possible to do it
