In case someone needs an explanation for pg 2:
In this manga, only families that comes from the 10 magic laboratories can use the number kanji in their family names. There are only 28 such families: the 10 Master Clans plus 18 Assistant House.
Both Tooyama 十山 and Juumonji 十文字 are from the tenth magic laboratory. 十 is the kanji for 10.
This Tooyama lady hides her origin by changing her family name to not use the kanji 十, so people won't know that she was part of the 28 families.
