The translation and editing of this chapter was outstanding
I especially loved the marginal notes clarifying some meanings

There's also a lot to discuss. The most confusing thing I saw was when they initially talked about going to Kyushu, to then switch to Okinawa, which they simply referred to as O shima (大島, "big island") perhaps to avoid being disrespectful in the subsequent parody.

Then when they mention "Oniroku Okamoto" as the author of the film, possibly a combination of Oniroku Dan (a Japanese author famous for popularizing erotic sadomasochistic fiction with bondage) and some prominent figure in the entertainment world (there are several actors and actresses with the surname Okamoto)

Some of these parodies reminded me of scenes from the film Battle of Okinawa (1971), especially because of this comment

Regarding the trippy scene with the American soldiers who looked like animals, it's because during WW2 Japanese officers indoctrinated their soldiers into believing that the invading troops weren't human.
