But I'll ask you, what is wrong with showing some humility during an award ceremony? It's pretty rare that the winner was pre-ordained and could have been no one else (and all their efforts are their own), and even then they are not gods. (Roman triumph ceremonies even had a guy hanging behind the awarded person whose sole job was to remind the winner that even with all what is going on, they still were not gods.)
tl/dr Maybe it's a very ceremonial "Thank you very much, Headmaster". (Doubling as a "I'm not going to try to usurp you despite getting this funny hat".)

One thing that kind of bugs me about the awards is that "the new kings" only had the same rank up amount as everyone else that ranked up.
Shax went from rank 2 to rank 4
Iruma went from rank 3 to rank 4
As far as I can tell, that was their main reward from this.
The others on the leaderboards got the following in comparison:
Sabro: Rank 2 to Rank 3
Dorodoro bros: Rank 1 to Rank 3
Agares: rank 1 to rank 3
Gaap: rank 2(?) to rank 3
Camui: rank 1 to rank 3
Crocell: rank 2 to rank 3
Elizabetta: rank 1 to rank 2
Iruma should have been promoted to rank 5 to make the reward for the victory equivalent, in my opinion.
