Is it just because I read the raws, or is this translation REALLY terrible this go around? A machine translation ends up with better results, and in some cases I can't figure out how such huge errors made it in.
First off:
His name's アミイ・キリヨ: That's "Amiy Kiriyo" - Amiy probably referring to the Hebrew word 'Amiy/Servant, considering the name theming with the other characters - not "Ami Kriyo". (If it were "Kriyo", it'd probably be phonetically spelled as "kuriyo".)
Moving in, Page 4, Amiy is reeling off things he owns, but it's translated "the doll is moving!" Even though...they're pinned and clearly not moving at all? That should be "and this is a moving doll!"
On the same page, while "you don't need to try so hard" is a feasible translation for "please don't hurt yourself on my behalf", especially if this went through 2 languages, how in the world do you get "I saw the orb glowing" from EXPLODING??? It was 爆発! It's pretty straightforward, as far as words go! It didn't have contradicting furigana the way "choker" and "ring" did! Even if it went through 2 languages, he directly says "exploding", unsubtly, without any room for error, and the next page reveals what it was that exploded in chapter 20! Did this speech bubble just get skipped and the translator filled in with whatever seemed appropriate? Even then, ignoring the error, the grammar's terrible.
Bonus Absolutely Bizarre Translation that doesn't affect anything:
page 6 それ心臓部でな: "That's the heart organ", with furigana that says "battery", giving 2 possible translations, but Wicked House translated it as..."Small details"? Uhm?
page 6 こんなこと言うても分から | 嘘やーん: "Even if you say that [referring to Iruma saying "it's like a puzzle game"], it's IMPOSSIBLE!!!" translated as "you probably still remember that IT CAN'T BE..." UHMMM???? The structure is really awkward, so rewriting the whole thing makes sense, but this is just nonsense.
page 7 えらいキレイにできてるわぁわぁーすごいなぁ: "So beautifulll, wahh, it's amazingg" translated as-is, but "you make me surprised" is tacked on despite it not being anywhere in the page, and with bad grammar to boot
Also, you might notice with the way that some of the voices trail off with that little ぁ and the "やーん/yan" (which, trust me, almost everything he says includes a "ya" or "yan" - it replaces "yo" and "da" in a lot of his sentences and sometimes he just says "ya" as a filler sound the way someone might say "uhm" or "y'know"), and it kind of sucks that his floaty way of talking got dropped in translation, it's probably his most distinctive character trait. Like, it's the least offensive part, but I really like that he sounds like that.
I can't read Japanese fluently enough to confidently go through the raw volumes, so it sucks that the only English translation available is so weak.
