I mean yeah, that's cool and all yet I can't see this being the case for every demon. Like, there's aqua parks ffs. There's plumber demons, there's retail demons, there's structure and there's some sense of society. You dont get that if all demons were out there chasing their ambitions. This is a clear case of oligarchy and elitism enforced through meritocracy. Its hipocresy at its finest. That's all fine since they are demons, but what worries me is that Iruma, the reader's stand in and pov, doesn't seem to find it worrisome. He sees this fucked up meritocratic system and rolls with it. He doesn't question his role in the world beyond his immediate circle of friends and adoptive family. I really hope we soon will see him realizing how good he's actually got it and think about the injustice he's taking part of. God damn it there's an amusement park that uses prisoners as workforce and that NEVER raises eyebrows?
Fuck this place
This is probably why they always make statement that this is "demon world", hence why it's better not to put human mindset on it. Kind of why we don't question awful rule in the past since we couldn't apply it nowadays and it's just different period.
I guess the reason why Iruma never thinks it that much is because so far he's been in "survival mode" in human world. Dude didn't even go to school and worked his best just to live.
Where's the child protection service because I'm pretty sure there's law regarding child labor too. Gosh, Iruma's parents are messed up.

Look man I don't feel like writing a essay on this lol so I'll try to keep it short.
1- all social constructs in fiction reflect a human point of view. Its just like that. Anyone who says otherwise is deluded or is an alien. Demon society in this manga is constructed using a human idea of meritocracy, of hierarchy, of society. If this was supposed to be soooo alien and different, why do they wear clothes? Why school, borders, parties, aqua parks, amusement parks? Why is work and friendship a thing? All human concepts. Demon world is awfully close to human world in many things, so makes sense to compare them.
2- Iruma isn't presented as a feral child. He knows what school is, he speaks a language, he has proper understanding of emotions and social queues, he isn't riddled with crippling trauma and anxiety (except 2 chapters where he is drugged and comes out almost unharmed from confronting his past) Seems like all those years in the wild only left him with the good consequences and none of the bad. Early on, the school he goes to introduces the rank system and implies that the lower ranks are just plain worse than the better ranked ones. They have less benefits, they are denied some food, which is available only to upper ranked demons. Theres a big ass classroom with insanely cool shit only 1 class with exceptional demons in it can use. Sorry, the demons with high ranking can use. No one says anything about this. Iruma knows how to read and write, he has been exposed to SOME human knowledge. He is presented as a morally perfect character. Doesn't. Bat. An. Eye. At this insanely elitist attitude from the school. We still don't know if the rank system applies to all of demon world like the ranking system in china, but if bablys is any indication, the world is fucking insanely unfair to the big majority of its inhabitants.
3- now my worries about this is that so far we've been presented with morally gray characters some times, but there's always a clear idea of who's good and bad. Good demons respect hierarchy and titles, bad demons don't. Good demons play the social game, while the bad demons denounce it. I fear this author truly holds meritocracy and the natural rule of the strong as values somehow. Nothing so far has shown me that there's some nuance in the world view. I hope I'm wrong about this and it is the case that the moral nuance will come up later as Iruma matures, and this is planed out to be a long 1st act of a very long story. Maybe it is so. If not then I won't drop the manga or nothin, I'm not that politically committed, but I'll feel very disappointed

The rule in question:

No reasonable person is offended by "punch nazis", because reasonable people aren't nazis. "Nazism should be torn out root and stem" wouldn't even be a "political" statement in a sane society, because that's the only rational conclusion to be drawn from the history of nazism. You can't propose coexistence with an ideology fundamentally opposed to the very concept of coexistence; they violate the social contract, and so they cannot be protected by it, in the same way a home invader forfeits their right to not be shot by breaking into your house.
It's not about whether Nazism is acceptable or not(it isn't).
It's the fact that we had 6 pages mostly consisting of people repeating the statement in an vain attempt to look good instead of talking about the chapter.
Everything has a time and a place and after the ruleset, Mangas aren't the place for it.

I think the issue is that the phrase “punch nazis” went from, “we should fight literal nazis” which is a good concept to “punch anyone right of mao”. We had how many people get called Nazi sympathizers in this thread because they said it was unnecessary and needlessly confrontational.

Oh man, I'm so shocked that the guy who systematically reacted "dumb" on every comment even vaguely critical of nazis would have no actual response but still feel the need to disagree anyways. Maybe you should try thinking about why your politics would get you banned for posting them instead of just reflexively gainsaying everyone who calls a spade a spade.
... I got banned for telling some dude to toss his dick in the garbage can
He got a ban too because we where being such cunts to each other that we were breaking the rules

inb4
why are you here you @<:+.%#&*?
Saw the gem you posted while looking for that dude's comment because I wanted to quote him in another thread

No more nazi talk
Wait, what kind of nazi's? The terms been so diluted that I've heard commies and groomers call black people nazi's.
A self admitted cis-bi-man with a Trump avatar misunderstands what Nazis are. Have fun when the leopard comes to eat your face.

Anyone right of Stalin is considered "far right" nowadays, and the fact you can't even fathom there the social discourse is so toxic even some lefties called Bernie Sanders a nazi it's no surprise people like you can't fathom even "cis bi men" like me not being down with just name calling.

... how is he a nazi? The gods are a rulling class who one sidedly make demons bend the knee, magical beasts are just that, beasts, and iruma is the only human in hell exterminating humans would be murder, not genocide.
He is a crazy demon who wants to kill every beast and doom all of demonkind to vegetarianism or canibalism, that does not make him a national socialist

edit: though Hitler was famously a vegetarian:thonk:
shitler was a traitor to the nazi party, he killed all the REAL nazi's like ernst rolm or gregor strasser,
im tired of people using shitler as an example of "fascism" because nowdays no one even knows what fascism is.

Wait did we get it wrong? Does he really like Iruma? Were those his genuine thoughts? Was he really, honestly, just excited to hear someone else “share” his views on the world?

Kalego, just who the hell is your brother?! And how did you turn out ok if this is how he ended up?
