how is the many ears getting their shit together, and contributing to demon world's economy, is a threat to the demon world's peace to the point where Henry have to intervene?

if this is about the high and mighty not getting their musician or jeweler or whatnot, just hire them with bigger benefits. they are high and mighty, afterall. they can afford it.
The whole Many-Ears arc is the heaviest allegory/inspired by real life arc in the series.

It’s the most Jewish thing in this series, and that’s saying something. I lost count of the times I see kiddush cups, they use the aleph bet, he has a bar mitzvah celebration, a lot of terminology… I didn’t think there was a message there, just found it interesting that Nishi went with our stuff for inspiration instead of, well, anyone else? It’s probably the first time I’ve seen Japanese media have literally anything Jewish in it, and it’s just smeared all over this series.

The Many-Ears’ hisstory mirrors ours to a great degree.
We made it through the Middle Ages by being… literate, and able to do basic maths. Doing specialised work with specialised skills (accountants, lawyers and doctors, yo. It’s legit, and goes back to thousands of years of studying Talmud. Facts, figures, legal documents… Rabbis literally need to be able to read and write-up legal documents. That’s kind of the only thing you NEED a rabbi for, come to think of it…) pushed on the young by the old in order to survive in a world hostile to them.

However, while I liked the arc, and parts of it had allegorical elements that made me cry or shout “I called it!*”, I don’t agree with the implicit Zionism.
While this situation literally is “a people without a land and a land without a people”, that’s not the case in the real world.
The real world is a fucking mess and I don’t think any of it was a good idea.

That’s all preamble to a much shorter answer to your question: it’s allegory for antisemitism. That’s all.

Free Palestine, lach l’shalom. ✌️

*I said to my wife “if the next chapter has Iruma directly face this military police guy down without fear, and then the cop has to fuck off, I will wig out!”
Then he did.
The Alter Rebbe facing down a soviet cop with a gun pointed at him is a famous story.

There’s so much in this arc. I left comments on each chapter at first just joking about similarities, then pointing them out, then losing my mind. It’s WILD.

"Hey, we're trying to learn why demons take this hardcore rank up exams, so what's your motivation for ranking up?"
"I don't want to confess to my crush."
"Oh we get that a lot. Just mark option 3 in the feedback survey."

Now we have a Mephisto next door. And he's stolen Howl's moving castle.

Bachiko and the three great grandson talking was funny on the end

Iruma almost got in the same rank as Ameri! So close! Ahhhhhh!

I love that what he and Ameri have is so different to what he has with Clara and Azz, and they all these dynamics develop in such interesting and adorable ways!

I love how Amelie, despite being a tsundere, is actually honest with herself about her feelings, and the whole refusing to confess thing is just lack of cpurage.

If we are talking strictly about the exam then yeah, he did pass and should have gotten the promotion.

HOWEVER, even though Iruma is starting to establish his influence in the upper echelon, it's not very firm yet. The sixth rank is a pretty serious deal and throwing the kid there to be eaten by sharks is just not a good play at the moment. Iruma might have been strengthening himself, but we were just shown the sheer disparity in power between him and Mephisto. Heck, or even between him and Narnia, Baal and a plethora of other demons. Iruma ranking up and the entire deal with scala has ruffled too many feathers to just boil it down to "just let Henry deal with it". We are talking about the possibility of starting an entire war, not because of Iruma, but they can use Iruma as a pretext to escalate the conflict between the radical faction and the one striking for peace.

Not to mention, it might be Henry's job to solve any crisis that could arise, but the Border Patrol is currently undergoing internal strife and you can be a powerful demon, but Henry is not the ONLY powerful demon out there. One wrong move from him and Narnia is going to pull the rug under him and ceise control of Border Patrol.
Exactly. While Iruma DEFINITELY has a lot of connections, he does not have the personal firepower to support his position. I believe his rank should be held off until Iruma at minimum can make the barrier piercing arrow his default arrow.
