It did get Uesugi Kenshin right in one way: just like in the real world, no one can figure out their gender.
Seriously, it’s kind of hilarious. Every time new information has been discovered it’s gotten less clear, and even within single accounts things can conflict with what one would expect from anything. Old Japanese didn’t have gendered pronouns, foreign accounts disagree…

So adding “iunno“ as a character trait is possibly the only realistic thing in the game
