I honestly pretty surprised that people keep attributing that to the MC not realizing that he confessed his feelings (though future might prove me wrong), instead that he just stated the obvious. He said that of course he'd like to be the lottery jackpot winner, but he wasn't really buying a ticket due to them being just a tax on stupidity. Yeah, you ain't winning that.

Because if were are running with in-universe iron clad tropes, seeing the OOU MC struggle against the world in vain only to be stopped by fate would be frustrating as fuck to read.
