I get what you mean when you say that sometimes translating it word for wprd stretches the meaning but I don't think that applies here. Because that phrase wasn't an idiom or anything. It literally meant "You're not different." It just has a similar meaning but translating it into "You're not wrong" just doesn't sit well with me, personally. Yeah, it's just an issue of preference here.
