So, in the end, he learns nothing and still won't let go of the potentially psychopathic pacifism he calls his "ideals".

What's the value of those ideals if A) you die, and B) those values do nothing but cause the death of others, specifically those you're meant to protect? Your memory and your values end up demonized and stigmatized respectively. Seriously, Japanese writers have been watching too many lolis' attack targets escape alive from invariably (by normal logic) lethal attacks. The only time you don't get this stupid element of Japanese manga/LN writing is when the setting is purely grimdark, which is a shame.

Then again, the people who write like this are the same people who think a male MC can't be competent unless he looks like and/or is an effeminate, and that any inherently masculine traits (like physical combat aptitude/competence and the physical strength to go with it) must end up in the possession of a female companion character and not that of the MC.

This manga is cool but it's kinda hard to get an idea of how strong someone is at any given time so far.

I see it as a bit of the superman issue: when you're barely strong enough to survive whatever encounter you're facing, then killing your opponent tends to be your only choice, since otherwise you risk them coming again and have the battle turn the other way around, however, if you can curb-stomp the enemy, or at the very least beat them with relative ease, then and only then you can afford to let them live (provided they're not the kind who causes major damage to their surroundings on a frequent basis), since the risk-factor get minimized significantly there.

Remember, we like to talk kill and murder over here A LOT, but to actually take a life (and to top it off betray one's own lifetime ideals) is a tremendous mental strain that not many people can truly go through unphased, lest we "corrupt" our "pure" hero and get someone that WILL get corrupted by the UNLIMITED POWAH that they just got served not long ago.

If your enemy means to kill/destroy you, those you love, or something you mean to protect, it is utterly foolish to think that just letting them go with a spanking will do you any good in the long run. They meant to do it in the first place--how would a stern look and scolding dissuade them from trying again?

That said, what "we" talk about is an extrapolation from the circumstances presented: Fried was a swordsman before he became a demon lord and still is one--what was he wielding that sword for, then and now? To beat his enemies with the flat side and follow with an instance of the aforementioned scolding? That said, what is a sword? Is it not a killing weapon, somehow? We know the answer to that. Knowing that answer, why did Fried have one, if the corruption you spoke of was such a major concern? Why does he still wield one? Why is he such an enthusiastic practitioner of swordsmanship?

The correct way to show virtuous handling of the power of life and death embodied by the sword is for the characters facing the usage of that power to be depicted using it righteously, mindfully, and judiciously--instead of depicted in the hamhandedly senseless ways characterized by a quivering fear of violence.

Watching Vrizzela fight the kraken girl feels like I'm watching a fight between a Musashi who looks like Tomoe vs a Gorgon who looks like Tomoe (all from FGO). And now the MC is summoning an arena that's very reminiscent of some Reality Marble-type Noble Phantasms.

I suppose a likely resolution of this arc would be MC either killing/capturing the kraken, then the modern day resealing problem becomes moot and solved like it was never necessary once they return to the present time.
