Recent war is interesting. We can establish that all of the portrayal of the enemies in media are mostly exaggerated. A few fun exaggeration includes:
WW2 Soviets blocking detachment. Its presence was greatly exaggerated by Western historians. The Soviets didn’t have much bullets to be spent wasting on shooting retreats. There’s also the myth that the Soviets attacked in human wave. If the Soviets offence is human wave, then all of WW2 infantry attacks are human wave. Their attack is no different from the Germans or American. The Soviets offensives deployed huge number of manpower on the front and rear, thanks to their experience with large front operations. Their ceaseless attacks descriptions made Western historians embellished the details. The most effective human wave attack, in my opinion, was a general offensive in 1944, landing a few thousands troops in front of machine nest and bunkers on the beach, forcing them to advance or die.

La Resistance. The French, the Chinese and the Soviets glorified their resistance effort. However, most of that was exaggerated. The French, in particular, resisted the least. 90% of French were either complicit or wilfully ignoring Germans rule. The Chinese have their own collaborate government, and the Chinese cities were fully functioning and serving the occupying Japanese forces and civilians. The Chinese resistances were mostly in rural areas where numbers are hard to come by. The Soviet resistance wasn’t significant, but most importantly, their collaborators were of a sizeable force. Hiwis were a force of their own, and much much more civilians supports for the Wehrmacht. The reason why resistance leaders were exceptional is because most people weren’t interested in such things.

Resistance in general. Adding on to that. Many events we considered “large movements”, were always the minority. Hong Kong protestors were minute, Tiananmen Square general student protest were the minority of students, Vietcong were tiny and generally unpopular, most Afghans weren’t resisting the American intervention, so were Iraqis. Most people are not interested in anything other than food and money. If there’s a real general uprising such as the one in Russia in 1991 or Arab Spring, again the people marching down the street weren’t the majority. The majority were watching it through their windows and television. If you need proof. Look at how many of the protestors are women. Half of the population are women, and women generally do not want to cause any violence.

Countries contribution to WW2. The Chinese held up majority of the Japanese Army but seldom got credited for winning the war in the Pacific. India supplied GB a great deal during the war, as well as actually fighting the Japanese. The Soviets rapid advance in Manchuria and liquidation of the Kwangtung Army helped crushed the Japanese command spirit. The Finnish forces holding half a millions Soviets at the border during the war. The Soviets effectively engaging more than half of the Axis forces during the last few years of the war and most of the Wehrmacht in 1941. These contributions were vital to the war effort as a whole, but rarely mentioned or given importance to.

Soviets and American intelligence. The Soviets spies were infamous for stealing things such as the atomic bomb. However, the Soviets were always focusing on counter-intelligence. The CIA was different. CIA agents weren’t passive like the Soviets. Bay of Pigs was just a small part of that. However, this is commonly known. What’s not widely known is Mossad. Israel intelligence is the real star. Unlike the Soviets and the Americans, who were largely having their hands tied due to diplomatic relation considerations, Mossad were efficient, daring and most often, cruel. They executed many assassinations during the Cold War, harming foreign relations left and right, as well as, perhaps, stealing Khrushchev speech that announced de-Stalinisation. Mossad was what the CIA and KGB were portrayed.

Warcrimes of victorious nations. The Soviets warcrimes weren’t widely known as the Germans, but the list is quite extensive as well. Though this is remembered clearly in Eastern Europe hostile to Russia, even though cases such as Ukraine, whose leaders of their nationals were involved in such war crimes, which shows all of those messages weren’t coming from true sympathy. The American and British warcrimes weren’t obscure, as the bombings were remembered clearly. The part that’s not discussed is bombing on such level is still exercised, despite the equally inhumane level of wilful ignorance. What’s the difference between dropping bomb on hospitals and clearing out the hospital to search for hostile soldiers? Still, the most infamous lesser known warcrime is committed by China, or specifically, the RoC. The flooding of the Huang He to stall the Japanese advance killed nearly 900000 people and affected up to 4 millions people. During the entire war, from 1937 to 1945, across East and South East Asia, the Japanese killed 10 millions people, including 6 millions Chinese. In one move, the Kuomintang leadership killed 1/10 of what the Japs did in 8 years. It’s astounding how things like these weren’t talked about. The CCP even taught this in school.

If I had 80 bucks I could blow on this I'd get those chapters myself with a VPN and upload them online. Guess we'll wait for someone to do it indefinitely until then
