I thought it was called Silver Wing, or something similar.
It was about someone who was 'famous' during the beta of a giant strategy RPG style game, with troop combat. Everyone lead a different type of unit in his school group.
There was also a side plot that the game was being used to choose the next generation heir of a multi-national corporation.
It updated sporadically, but I can't seem to find it.
