Manga with Post-apocalyptic setting/ Survival Oriented

I don't think I've read any serious post-acolyptic manga, the only one I can think of is Highschool of the Dead and that was an ecchi comedy, so this time I'm looking for something more serious and with a sombre tone if possible. Something that shows how gruesome the world really is, especially when the characters' lives are on the line so they need to make tough decisions and at times sacrifice their humanity.

This particular manga is serious in its own way. The story starts out relatively innocent but as the story progresses it becomes increasingly sad and depressing. Even though it's a little different from what you are looking for, I thought I would include it in case you're interested because it's absolutely brilliant - one of the only manga I've read I would rate it 10/10 without any hesitation.
