No but seriously, fan service increase sales. To keep a manga going you need to sell. So most likely his editor has probably also said to put in some fan service so the manga will survive.
Considering how popular this is on places like comic walker, I doubt it'll get axed, but in the end it all depends on sales.

Some people tend to stay several days in manga cafes, to the point of commuting to work from there.

I guess it's mostly for people that need the relaxation time but live too far away from their workplace to do the overtime, go back home, take a shower and dinner and get enough sleep to catch the train next morning for work.

It's also cheaper than a hotel and doesn't require reservations, plus they also serve food.
For a tired salaryman, a manga cafe near their workplace is a godsend.

I'm under the distinct impression the editor is the one holding him back, since the most explicit scenes get saved for any place that doesn't have story implications, and the author's X is nothing but horny bait posting. This thing where it starts getting more and more explicit only started last chapter.

As it stands, this story might have had one direction: Fluffy romcom. It's been fumbling that ball the whole time by also trying to throw in the author's every fetish and porn trope.
