Generally, いけない ikenai to mean bad is written in kana and not in kanji like the one in the chapter.

I worked in a machine shop for 2 years with almost waist-length hair, only got my hair pulled once in a surface grinder.

I was a CNC operator though, harder to get your hair stuck in a mazak than a bridgeport.
