If I remember correctly, a mounted unit with shorter versions of the flintlock arms (or any other firearms) are technically called Dragoons. I think some of the highlights of a dragoon's use can be found during Napoleon's campaign.
The tactic of dragoons usually is charging in mounted (preferably by flanking) then firing as they charge in, then dismount to re-assemble for either melee or re-loading the firearm.

Okay, MC; sasuga, I guess.

Pretty clever to use a smaller firearm, since you can protect the ember/flint in the rain very easily.

Pistols were the first flintlock, and they were for cavalry, and it was specifically so you could use them in damp conditions... and it's the same for matchlocks; cavalry, dampness, all that.

So... fine, MC; this part of the plan isn't stupid.
In fact, it's pretty damn smart.

Still... kinda dumb battle plan.
