And he knows she will die first unless he's killed by other forces. All his wives save Lefi will surely die first. It's also why she's fine with them being his wives. They are a brief time with him, while she will be eternal.

That feels wildly insane and like a pretty decent way of starting a new coup when this new "hero" lets the authority you just gave him go to his head, or gets assassinated and you get framed for it

old school RPGs had pretty simplistic morals. demons are evil and need to be killed. humans are good and need to be saved. And once you kill all the bad guys, everyone lives happily ever after (until they make a sequel). Honestly, I'm loving stories authors tell now where they address these deeper issues. Kouki in Arifureta is a typical early RPG/isekai hero who just emanates goodness and everyone quickly comes to hate him cause he's a simple-minded idiot who thinks of the world as being fully black and white. Meanwhile, FFF-trashero is an entire several hundred chapter series consisting entirely of bashing the hero tropes. Favorite example is the hero's party forcing the hero to put a princess on the throne who was cast out by the corrupt nobles who rule her kingdom, except once they do, the kingdom falls apart due to the massive and expensive coup they just led, and all the corrupt nobles who actually ran the kingdom getting arrested

Nothing the city lord described sounds like something a king shouldn't be able to deal with. If the kingdom needs a supernatural hero for something like that, it's a hopeless place in need of a revolution.
