The old man heavy record in killing mages is only because they attack first and he just automatically defend himself and by defend himself i mean "nuking the fuck outta them". The old man knows he looks "too violent" to make most of the people heard him before attacking (Zagan was the first that didn't) and that is why he made Ponytail the new recruiter.

The way the swords of the two clashed, she shouldn't be able to stop him. If hers were above his', okay I can suspend my disbelief. But diverting a more powerful strike from above by striking upwards with that pose won't stop the strike from above. It kinda irks me.

So far the manga depicts the event portrayed in the novel accurately so for those who thinks that the plot is convoluted or overarching, I suggest you all to read the light novel instead.

If demons are the ultimate enemy of the world, it's kind of unfortunate the strongest mages are called demon lords. Most of the population would automatically assume they have got something to do with the demons, making any cooperation more troublesome.

You know, I love this series, but I have to say I don’t like the “all X are evil” trope. Especially when it’s just demons again for the hundredth million time. It really only works in video games for me (particularly those I kinda forget have a story). In a series with a story, I expect a little more than to be spoon fed that an entire species is pure evil. Why are the demons attacking? Why is the entire race attacking and not just “X group”? Sentient beings generally tend to be like humans, there are those with peaceful and violent intentions, and all of them feel that their actions are reasonable. I hope this series delves more into what exactly the “demons” are and doesn’t just turn them into mindless monsters (because those are just mindless monsters). That said I only read this series for the family dynamic between elf slave mom, demon lord wizard dad, and dragon daughter. As far as I’m concerned anything that doesn’t contribute to the fluff is just filler.

@Kaarme
And who says they aren't related to the demons at all ?
Remember the first volume, the demon Barbatos tried to summon obeyed to Zagan's seal.

@TNT261 I disagree. On the contrary, I'm kind of tired of how demons are in most manga these days: They are basically just humans with horns or some other decorations and often strong magic. In RL demons are considered the servants of evil, trying to corrupt and harm humanity (or in other words, test the faith of believers and punish evildoers). However, many authors have pretty big troubles trying to depict evil at all. You could consider a real demon something like the successful killer psychopaths in some of the works of that genre. So, they indeed are supposed to be utterly evil, but it would also depend on the skills of the author how nefarious they can make the evil in their work. That being said, lots of manga is quite fluffy, so you can't have really evil beings in it. So, demons are simply made another race. Just like elves in most manga are nothing but humans with pointed ears and perhaps a longer lifespan. Not that different from what happened to vampires in Twilight and other cheap urban fiction.

@ShinGetsu Those who do, and are too corrupted for it, probably aren't going to fight for humanity's sake anyway. However, someone like Zagan doesn't have much to do with demons, as far as we know. I imagine there are more people like him around if the plot requires any army to have magicians in significant numbers. If this story is going to be intelligent, it will naturally also have demons betraying mages who think they are controlling the demons. Maybe the early history of all mages had something to do with demons. Like the demons taught humans how to use magic, but it was only for the reason of a grand betrayal later. Nevertheless, if you are going to fight demons, being called a demon lord is not convenient.

I don't know why the holy sword dude acted dishonestly and hostile to them? Why not just tell the truth back then?

@Equilibrium which one? The old man being a good guy? I called that 3 chapters ago. I think I commented about it either last chapter or the one before that if you want to verify this.

To everyone thinking the clash of swords didn't make sense, don't forget Fol was also beamspamming her lasers. The impact wasn't just against the Paladin's sword, it also had the backing power of Fol's own blast. Thus the parry needed to knock the blade to the side AND the beam rather than take the full force of it.

To everyone wondering why he charged Fol, it's pretty clear that he wants to lie down and die, and if he could let this girl get "revenge" it's easier than having to explain things. Only when Zagan spilled the beans did he start talking.

I'm interested to see whether the demons ARE mindless - it'd be VERY refreshing to see actual alien intelligences that aren't just human-looking folks with horns, especially if they're NOT omnicidal.
