A chapter in which R'lyeh is being awesome. As usual.

Considering how casinos operate and the money they circulate, a few cheaters won't make that much of a difference. Sure, it's a bit of a problem, but nothing that would shut the business down. And in a real world casino, you can just throw them out. Apparently casino owners have less rights in this world.

Can he look any more evil?

Snazzy. But I like her regular dress.

Dealers have no stake in casino games. They follow their rules. Well, if you make your own bets, then all bets are off, so to speak.

He totally trusts her. Couldn't trust her any more than this. And by all rights, he really shouldn't.

Of course they're going for the big hands. She's gonna have a straight flush or something like that.

I find it uncomfortable to hold the cards directly from below like that. A little from the side is better.

Heartbeats go up for several reasons. Lie detection from that is a bit busted.

Failed a SAN check. Perfect character to produce that check.

The house doesn't play poker!

The house gets players who want to play together, manages the table, and then takes a cut when the the chips get cashed out (or charge a fee for using the table).

If there's a chance that a game may lose the casino money in the long run then they don't play that game.

Maybe not always wins, but having an equivalent of a lie detector in card games?

Catching tells from others is not cheating. And, dealers should not be in a position whether they have a tell matters or not anyway.
The game they should have played in this chapter should have been something like blackjack and even then the “cheating” should have been something direct.

So... the supposed leader of cheaters has been actually not cheating? Then he gets punished for what? Am I missing something here?

I feel that the author doesn't actually know how casinos really work... but maybe it's cause the MC doesn't understand fully how they work himself...

That said... that dude wasn't cheating... so I feel sorry for him instead...

But our MC didn't cheat either, and it really was just pure luck in the end... both the lady and dude just took a huge gamble and the dude lost...

So it's his fault for being greedy and underestimating his opponent.... and it really was a fair game of pure chance...

He was already determined as the leader of a cheating gang. Even if he wasn't cheating (debatable) and wouldn't be punished for it (probably counted on that to get away with it), the others were and criminal conspiracy, accomplice to crime and organised crime are punishable.

Also, he wasn't punished per sé, he was set up in a trap. Falling for it it's his own fault for arrogant overconfidence.
