Hmm, it does seem like there is a detail that Zai is keeping from Ooma, but I think I buy that Zai's actually a good guy and on Ooma's side. If I had to bet on it, I don't think that Zai is the murderer or a manipulator. If he is related to the murder, I think it's tangential at most. Something else is going on. Riri is still really suspicious though.

Yeah, I was thinking that maybe it was a characteristic of the language, thanks for the context. Whenever I attempt to use the word "partner" to refer to my girlfriend, I feel people will clock me as gay, so that's on me. In any case, this characteristic is kinda neat, and I wanna see how long it will take Yuuka to realize Ooma's date was with Riri.

I don't think there is any "yandere" angle going on there. She likes her but not to THAT degree. There is something very fishy going on with the circumstances of their deaths and i think Riri knows about it but don't want MC to learn. Retainer and MC died at the same time but both can't remember how. But i feel like Riri does. Her aloof attitude concerning the topic is not natural. She didn't want them to meet like it would complicate things but if he was the murderer i don't think she would even allow him near her (unless SHE is the murderer and two amnesiac victims meeting isn't not really that important so she is observing)

Regardless, she is hiding something big. That much is apparent.

And at the end of chapter 3 Riri said:
"Just gotta make sure we don't run into him," after Ooma asked to go out on a date with her.

I'm pretty sure Zai is "that one guy" and "him", as referenced above. I'm guessing that Riri was denying knowing about her past life, and gaslighted Zai into doubting himself about his past memories. To the point that he's worried that he's just a chunybyo. That's why he was so relieved by Ooma confirming his past memories are real, that he would cry.

Also it is interesting that only Ooma so far has had their gender changed… coincidence? Absolutely not, but does this mean I was right with my earlier mentioned theory? The one I really hope is the truth now, at least the part about Riri wanting Ooma to be a girl this time (possibly understand her more)
