Frankly, it's getting annoying. Half the comments here are comparisons to that other manga. Either read this one on its own terms or go re-read the other if you miss it that badly.

on the flipside I find it hilarious how the hate for juujika has endured such that readers will actively shit on it whenever possible

For those who don't know. the other manga, JnR, is being drawn for comparison because the similarity of answers for the villains and how that is a bad thing. Maria no Danzai is showing signs that it could completely shift into JnR's flaws.

(TBF, early in the story, I learned about JnR from somebody who said in the MnD's comments that it was already too similar to JnR. Perhaps the signs were there all along).

JnR was brainrot from the beginning, there's a bit of difference with elementary school children committing murder versus high-schoolers.

But yeah, it's funny that introducing more adult characters made MnD more stupid. I mean, you need more material if there's only five villains to torture, but I think the conspiracy was a fumble.
