Indeed, for someone who regressed from the future, she sure jumped onto a really dumb misunderstanding.

To be fair (and I agree that this is set up clumsily regardless), she came from a future where she knew absolutely nothing about this dude because she never cared to know.

So even though she's older than she appears, she can't just suddenly know things that she never learned. As far as she knows, he doesn't care about her and the people around him don't care about her either, which is true, since they got rid of her immediately after he died.
