Hm, feel like MC could let the old guy stay in MC's small world. Mc already told him about the waterfall & the only special thing he have left to hide is probably the lotus. Having a GPS would be convenient.
There also the fact that an explosion in the middle of nowhere like that might seem strange. Those who come across it while they are combing through the area for materials might just investigate the area more.
