To be fair, there's at least 3 generations between Chris and MC. Probably many more, depending how distant the first king is to MC.

In the US, 27 states allow marriage between first cousins.

partially speculation but the elf chieftain just said she went through the chamber that Ain went through when visiting the royal grave, so she's most likely afflicted with the red foxes [Curse of Loneliness] like everyone else who has walked through that warped barrier except Ain (at least as far as we've seen so far). perhaps the only thing keeping it at bay had been regular trips to the sanctuary and now that her movement is more restricted due to old age it won't be long till she too succumbs to it like the living armor marco did... it's said that only herself and the two sisters were allowed in after all. (though perhaps that's more it requiring a genetic match with a royal family member?) i seem to recall a mention along the lines of the "Chieftain's fangs will be bared" in a previous chapter? i originally assumed it would be the Red fox Chieftain, but perhaps it's the Elven chieftain instead?

perhaps they chose to hide the origin of the royal family so there wouldn't be any resentment towards them due to the Demon lord's rampage? rather hard to rebuild a kingdom if they hate your family because of their great great grandmother's actions, even if it wasn't their fault and was the work of another group that was seemingly pure evil, as the red foxes [curse of loneliness] doesn't appear to be public knowledge.

Never said to the public. And either way they could've still made it work anyways.
If you think about it, what's worse, you telling the people your history and how you were exploited and how you defeated the evil

The red fox coming in right now and exposing your secrets while carefully keeping out the fact that she was the one actually responsible.
Moreso when they already know how manipulative the red fox is.
