@sonyalexandra : Treating the 2nd son as slightly favoured can make sense, as he should realize he needs to raise Ain for a different role in society, and not that fo a general. However he is still neglecting the 1st born way to much.
However, thinking that the rest of the poor treatment occurs without his knowledge and blessing is quite frankly idiotic. No one is going to treat the 1st wife as a servant without the head of the house's blessing. The 2nd wife is only in a superior position because HE has broken protocol and etiquette. The servants would not treat them as such without him treating her as 2nd class first. His mother might have issues, but it would NEVER spread beyond her without him deliberately allowing it.
@Rayster : With regards to the other nobles
@undercurses : happy wife, happy life...
@aigomorla : I once have seen people complain that the image in a groups credit page was a spoiler, when it was from ch 1 of that manga, only included the Mc and a character that was already introduced and relevant in the previous arc, and was notable higher in quality so that it was obviously either a special page, or one of those LN illustrations that are obviously not a scene from the story.

They do not know, only the higher ups father and grandmother did. It, along with a promotion in rank, was supposed to be revealed when Ain was declared official heir of the house (and another promotion when he became head).
The rulers probably assumed the Earl would not be stupid enough to break an international agreement with a much more advanced nation that only benefited his house (would see his son raised to a duke) and disregarded rumors as just unfounded rumors until shown proof otherwise at the party. Plus I think Olivia was supposed to have earned a decent reputation for herself.
