This seems like a wonderful idea. But for us outside of the US, we‘ll miss out and be very sad. So I just want to request: Will you take some photos of all the beautiful people that will attend and post them later?

I think most people, including myself, aren't miffed about this being an US meetup, but more about the point that the thread is written as though that is the only place on earth.

OP mentions "several states away" and the coasts without ever saying it's an US meetup beforehand. Even the title doesn't specify it.

I'm sure there were no bad intentions, but with the way the post is currently worded it just confirms the stereotype that US citizens think that the US and A are the center of the universe. All that was needed was to say it is an "US meetup" and it would have been fine.

There's a reason so many people joke about US artists' world tours being every state and then 3 performances in some random outside countries.

Just because I dislike how the post was worded and mention as much doesn't mean I don't want everyone participating to have fun though :)

@Steamedtoast the last threads established that the meet up would need to be on the East coast here if Zephyrus is going. You're free to organize a meet up in Europe. We Americans who aren't near the East coast aren't whining about Yankee elitism.

It's the US of A, not US and A. Is there a Muphry's Law for geography and stereotypes?

@gormadoc Since you so kindly pointed out my mistake I'll be so free to point out that you spelled "Murphy" wrong.

So instead of OP adding two little characters to instantly avoid any confusion you expect everyone to go back and read old threads. Makes perfect sense.... not.

Also again great show of how big your horizon is. So according to you the world is made up of Trumpland and Europe and that's it. Or why did you default to Europe to tell me where to organize, hmm?

I'm excited for you guys, and I hope it goes well! I live in an entirely different continent, but I happily await until the users from my side of the world are large enough so we can arrange a little meet up of our own!

@Steamedtoast Muphry's Law is its own thing. By correcting it you actually ran afoul of it.

Most cons are in NA or Europe. If you aren't European and somehow didn't realize this is being organized around a con that's on you.

Also, the only other people "miffed" are Euros. Luckily more Euros understand Zephyrus' reasoning than those who don't.

Mods are not Gods that can travel to wherever you are. Someone is being kind enough to try to organize something near them in the US because that’s what’s in the realm of possibility for them at the moment. I can’t believe some of you are actually getting angry at this.

I like looking the geo map of all the votes. I'm really hoping for ACEN since that really close by to me.

(Hopefully it turns out better than this year's ACEN where I popped a tire in the middle of the night when I was going home after the second day)

ACEN is pretty easily accessible. Its right next to O'hare which is a major airport. Lots of hotels for room planning. Not the hottest bar crawl area tho.

A thought could be maybe host a booth for MangaDex? They have different booth types, some merch and other advertising types. Maybe a limited booth for a day or something? Would be something like $100 to $200. Just a thought, would require more thinking than that of course. Perk: Would give you free passes lol

Its a thought. Cons are a great advertising space directly to the target audience. Making a booth, even a small one, would require actually planning. It could even bring unwanted attention actually... this is why im not the ideas guy

that was what i thought, too. which is why it's most likely gonna end up as an informal, one-off gathering for those who are planning to be there for the con... or for those who live nearby and are interested. UNLESS whoever is gonna plan this (Zephyrus et al) has different ideas, and it gets more official.

BUT can you imagine a booth for MangaDex, with fliers and banners, maybe a presentation within the con to argue for scanlation, maybe invite some folks from the industry to stand for/against... (and maybe the FBI in tow)....

It would be quite something to behold I'm sure 😄.

-In all, ACEN is a easy access venue if a meetup happens there. Theres also a casino across the street if you feel lucky. And usually some high schools prom during that tume, which makes the con even funnier when you see all these confused highschoolers.
