So according to what was said earlier in this chapter the gods of nature are pretty much neutral and it's they're agents that pretty much decide whether to be good or evil. Hopefully we learn why an agent of the god of Earth decided to be evil.
Could be something as simple as "humans exist in opposition to nature," but regardless I don't think a reason would be left unsaid.

I have been wary of the Goddess of Life since I read about Mother Summer of the Dresden Files. She isn't just focused on Human life and other beneficial organisms, but viral life too. She tends to jars of smallpox and other epidemics like cherished children.

Now Luca, remember the party oath you need to make with Rebecca. I'll give you the words.

I, (name), take you, (name), for my party member, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish until death do us part.

Ignore the similarities to other vows.

Might even be something as simple as, "this is a necessary thing to deal with the mana buildup, which also impacts the Earth." Maybe even corrupting it. They could very well be doing this as what they deem to be a necessary function, without any real malice.
