This thread is for suggesting and discussing new tags to be implemented on MangaDex.
Read the guidelines below then post your suggestion as a reply here.

All tags are subject to review by the mod team and are not guaranteed to be added.

Guidelines:

1. The tag should represent a broad theme or concept that can apply to many different series. Avoid tags that are too niche or abstract. Providing examples is encouraged to clarify where it would be used.
2. Provide a clear explanation of the tag's purpose and what type of content it's meant to categorize. At the very least your suggestion should answer the question: What type of content is it meant to categorize?
3. Avoid suggesting tags that could closely overlap with existing ones. If unsure, check our Tags Definition for guidance, ask if you're still unsure.
4. Tags should primarily focus on describing the content itself, such as its themes, genres, or storytelling structure. Tags that focus on external conditions or processes will be rejected. Other types of tags may be accepted, provided they help users identify the reading structure or navigational format of the content.
5. All suggested tags must align with our site rules. Tags for content that violates these rules will not be accepted.

Important:

Currently a rework is being done to handle "porn tags". This new system will allow us to categorize these tags to flag them appropriately and segregate them from the main list of tags. Suggestions for these tags will not be considered at this time.

Below is a list of tag suggestions that meet the above requirements and are subject to review by the mod team. This list is a work in progress and will be updated.

The title is the best I could think of, but fair, open to alternatives.
It is, however, a rather clear trope, given the fact that it's many copy & paste implementations constantly are findable inside the popular list and that it is a standard used by many.
On the current featured, already, I count like 7 from their description alone that it would apply to and one where I read the first chapter of and saw it happen in there as well.
It certainly is a subgenre of Power Fantasy, in the "I may be regarded as trash, but they don't know I am actually super powerful" thought.
Wanna revisit the false underdog tag:
I still consider the trope of: "Main Character is considered weak by others, yet actually the most powerful" as something worthy of being tagged as such.
It is a common enough occurence in manga that it qualifies as a trope.
And false/fake underdog seems like the main designation so far, I don't really see a different one.

In short:
  • Daughter tag to power fantasy
  • Applicable if the hero is evaluated as weak despite being much stronger/has a weak class or skill that is actually the strongest/f-class, but actually SSSSS-Class, etc.

Also, maybe a Mayadere tag?
Scary girl that's nice towards their love interest.
Can be seen quite often on those cheap rondelslop twitter comics that you can see on popular all the time

Do you know how many Dere exist? And if they're not categorised as such by a publisher then it's going to be hell. I have bookmarked this fandom wiki btw: https://the-dere-types.fandom.com/wiki/Dere_Types_Wiki
We have self-published works on the site, and tags are supposed to help people find or avoid things.
And yes, there are many dere types, but... Oh wait, nevermind, Mangadex doesn't have Tags for Tsundere or Kuudere, which I was going to use as an argument for that enough appearances do signify a trend existing enough to be taggable. I believed they had.

And... More tags = BETTER
Like, just below the level where it's so disorganized that you have multiple tags for the same thing, but yeah. HAVE TAGS FOR THE DERE TYPES

(And the linked page I posted is the Breezewiki fork of that wiki, because FANDOM sucks ass)

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but I think it's pretty crazy that there's no tag for "robots".

I also think it's kind of clunky that "monster girls" has a tag but any non-female humanoid monsters get tossed into the general "monsters" category. In general, I'd suggest some sort of tag for "kemonomimi" because when I think of a "monster" I don't think of, like, a cat. A girl who is also a dragon or a slime or something is a monster girl; a girl who just has cat ears and a tail doesn't seem like a monster to me. So I think a "kemonomimi" tag would be extremely useful, lest everyone looking on the "monster girl" or "animal" tags have to sort through a bunch of cat, dog, and bunnygirls/boys/everyone else.

(Personally, I'd also suggest a general "kemono/furry" tag, but I'm also aware there may not be a substantial enough amount of furry stuff on the site to justify it. At the very least, "robots" and "kemonomimi" would definitely be useful tags to have.)
I also would like to see similar tags to distinguish anthro characters (kemono/furry) from kemonomimi.
  • "Anthro" tag - Right now there's an "animal" tag that pretty much lumps everything together as a catch-all. So you may see a manga like "Beastars", but then you'll see something like "Helpful Fox Senko San", followed by a monster girl manga. Creating an "anthro" tag would separate mangas with furry characters from mangas that have Kemonomimi.
  • "Kemonomimi" - The next logical tag would be this one, as now you can separate the many, many mangas that contain kemonomimi characters so they don't get blended into mangas that have purely anthro/furry, or monster girls.
Just adding those two tags alone would be very helpful. It would also make it so if somebody wanted to find a manga that contained all of these types of characters, they could do so with these additional tags.

Can we get a Villain tag? There are so many mangas that feature a villainous male main character or a male main character being reborn as a villain, often with some level of prior understanding of the world, basically just the male version of the Villainess tag. Stuff like Taida na Akujoku Kizoku ni Tensei Shita Ore, I Am the Fated Villain, Repeat Vice, Kiwamete Goumantaru Akuyaku Kizoku no Shogyou, Kizuitara Musou Game no Akuyaku Shougun Datta Ken, and My Death Flags Show No Sign of Ending are a few I've read recently. There are so many more as well and they're pretty hard to search for since they don't have a tag like Villainess.

I didn't read through every single post in this thread, so perhaps it's been mentioned, but what about a "Hobbies" tag, or something like it? Granted there would be a fair bit of overlap with CGDCT, but not totally. There are already some specific hobbies that have separate tags, like "cooking", but not every hobby, of course. In those cases, adding hobby on top of the specific activity tells you more about the manga too. Like, "Food Wars!" would get the cooking tag, but not the hobbies tag.
