This is a gigantic red flag for the quality of the story. The protagonist didn't kill even a single bandit, every single one of them was killed by their boss. And then, when he was about to kill the bandit boss, he conveniently transformed into a monster.
This appears to be yet another example of a manga with the author who is simply unable to handle their protagonist killing people.
