If we ignore the multiple Christmas and New Year's chapters...a year has not passed. Surprisingly technology from 1994 advanced so rapidly we had flat screen monitors and smart phones when Shinichi and Ran were kids!

Well looks like Ran might be getting a smart phone after this case. I've heard how endearing it is for Ran to keep using her flip phone while the rest of the cast members have modern smartphone.

Yeah, but it was before the days when everyone had one, that was the point of the Detective Boys badges. It felt really cutting edge at the time that the professor would invent something like that.
